Interior Design Project: Infusing Modernity into a Retro Home

When Holly met with these clients in 2023, she discovered that their house had been left as it was since they first decorated it after moving in in the 1980s.

The clients found themselves being initially sceptical of some of Holly's suggestions to start with.

"Some of my recommendations to them were out of their comfort zone, but they trusted in me," says Holly, explaining that the clients wanted their whole house to have a makeover - from the bedrooms to the living and dining rooms; including the hallway, stairs and landing.

"Working together with the clients, I set to work creating schemes that were light, bright and modern whilst still functional for family life," says Holly, describing how a colour scheme of greys and navy blues was used throughout the house.

Holly also helped pick out paint colours for the walls and suggested furniture items from Roomes for use in the newly refurbished house.

The result was a meticulously tweaked version of the old decor which retained some of the previous elements like the clock, wooden furniture and the colour of the sofas; except that it now showcased colourful and bright injections of contemporary design.

"One of the things that I love most about whole house projects is that I get to know my clients really well so that they don't actually feel like clients anymore," says Holly.

"I love how a newly decorated and freshly furnished home can bring such joy to my clients that they can enjoy for years to come!"
